BCATC Ranks 3rd in State WorkKeys Assessment
The Breckinridge County Area Technology Center recently administered the WorkKeys assessment by ACT. WorkKeys is an assessment used by many industries to measure fundamental skills needed to be successful. Students were tested in the areas of math, locating information, and reading for information. These assessments are part of the college and career readiness initiative which is embedded into Kentucky’s new accountability model for education. BCATC tested 133 senior students with the WorkKeys assessment and 107 met the benchmarks needed for career readiness. That is an 80.4% pass rate. The state average for all area technology centers is 61.9%. The results rank BCATC third in the state. This is an outstanding achievement for the students of Breckinridge County and a testament to the hard work of the teachers and staff of our technology center.
Three BCHS Students Accepted to Governor's Scholars Program

Congratulations to BCHS students Rebecca Anne Hinton, Justin Kyle Hobbs, and Morgan Britney Miller who were named to the 2013 Governor’s Scholars Program! The Governor’s Scholars Program is a summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky who are rising seniors. The Program originated in 1983 as a result of Kentucky leaders’ concern that the state’s “best and brightest” were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home.
The program provides students, faculty, and staff a rare opportunity to share the joy and discovery of learning and to exchange ideas in a warm community atmosphere. A select group of supportive high school and college teachers works closely with the Scholars in classes, seminars, and co-curricular activities. Well-known speakers and performers as well as films, field trips, special events, and a wide range of recreational opportunities offer an array of stimulating activities that provide fun and enjoyment while Scholars learn.
We celebrate with these students in this wonderful accomplishment!
